The Story Behind Koa Shore
Made by the coast · 01 — 01
I started Koa Shore after years of frustration with skincare that overpromised and underdelivered. Expensive bottles. Ingredient lists I couldn't pronounce. Anything labelled “natural” that turned out to contain thirty things I wouldn't recognise.
While researching harmful ingredients in food, I came across something simpler: beef tallow. Our ancestors used it for cooking and skincare for generations. The fatty acid profile matches human sebum almost exactly — your skin recognises it instantly. No fighting, no irritation, just nourishment.
When I tried it, my skin felt different inside a week. But pure tallow had two problems: I still needed a separate zinc product as well, and on its own, the smell took getting used to.
So I made Koa Shore.
Daily Defence is one bottle — grass-fed tallow and non-nano zinc oxide, plus three supporting ingredients (MCT, vitamin E, olive oil) and the technical bits that make any emulsion hold together. Lightweight. Lightly scented. Made in small batches on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
The name: Koa means warrior in Hawaiian. Shore evokes the coast, the salt, the every-day. Together it's daily care for skin that's actually outside.
Two heroes. Three supporting. Plus the technical bits. Everything on the label.
I use it on myself and my kids. Then we make more.
