Koa Shore started with a simple frustration: two products on the bathroom shelf doing the same job.
A moisturiser. A separate zinc product. Both decent. Both half the size they should be for the price. Both needing to be replaced every few weeks when you're actually using them every day.
We're based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Most mornings start early — before work, before the crowds, before it gets hot. In the surf, on a trail, or just outside. The kind of routine where you don't want to think too hard about your skin, but you also don't want to ignore it.
We looked at what was available and found the same thing everywhere: synthetic ingredients, small bottles, big prices, and a lot of marketing language that didn't mean much when you read the label closely.
So we made something different.
Why tallow. Why zinc.
Grass-fed beef tallow has been used on skin for centuries — long before the cosmetics industry existed. Its fatty acid profile — oleic acid, stearic acid, palmitic acid — closely mirrors the fats your skin cell membranes are made of. It absorbs rather than sits on the surface. It nourishes rather than just coating.
Non-nano zinc oxide is a physical mineral ingredient. The particles are large enough that they don't absorb through the skin — they stay on the surface and form a mineral layer: a barrier against wind, salt and daily wear. Not a registered sunscreen — and we're clear about that. It doesn't provide sun protection.
Two ingredients that make sense. In one 150ml bottle.
What we don't do
We don't make claims we can't back up. Daily Defence is a daily moisturiser — not a medicine, not a sunscreen, not a cure for anything. We're TGA-aware and we mean what we say on the label.
We don't use parabens or a synthetic fragrance base. The scents — Coconut Lime and Strawberry — are light and clean.
We don't sell the idea of skincare. We sell a product that works for people who are outside, who are active, and who'd rather spend their money on one good thing than three average ones.
Made in Australia
Every bottle of Daily Defence is formulated, made and bottled in Australia, in small batches. Our grass-fed beef tallow is sourced from New Zealand. We're a small operation and we intend to stay that way — it's easier to care about quality when you're not making decisions at scale.
